About this deal

But once Dave and Nessa's wedding day arrives (Smithy is going to look after Baby Neil until they return from their honeymoon), but Smithy decides to stop the wedding. He reveals that Nessa was only marrying Dave because it was an easy option and because she felt that Smithy wasn't around enough to support her and Baby Neil. And six months later he has migrated to Barry and has grown a liking to Nessa but it likely or unlikely they're a couple. Doris: “She lives for the day she can change her name from West, what with all the connotations and what have you, and what does she become? A Shipman.”

Catherina "Cath" Smith ( Pam Ferris) – Smithy and Rudi's mother who first appears in the first episode of Series 3. She is rumoured to have had a lesbian relationship with the headteacher of Gavin and Smithy's primary school. She claims to suffer from narcolepsy, though Pam attributes this to her excessive drinking. She attends single mother support groups and has been known to perform lewd acts on webcam, having once accidentally exposed herself to Nessa thinking she was a man named John. Nessa: “That depends. This reminds me of a very similar situation I was in with my second husband, Clive. I was faced with a dilemma, whether to lie, or not to lie, and I chose to tell the truth.” After all, lots of shows have nice ideas and good actors, but very few of them ignite the nation’s interest to such a degree that two characters get to make a number one single with Tom Jones, while another gets to coach the England football team in a Comic Relief sketch. This is a show that almost everybody seemed to love, and I think a big part of that is the human drama at its core. Jason West ( Robert Wilfort) – Stacey's elder brother, son of Gwen and her late husband, Trevor. He is gay and lives in Spain with his boyfriend. He and Bryn share a rather awkward relationship due to some mysterious goings-on on the fateful fishing trip. Although the events of the fishing trip are never explicitly revealed, it is strongly implied that there was a close and intimate encounter between Jason and Bryn. When they attempt to explain to Dave the reason for what they did that night, Bryn says "It was freezing cold...and when you're that cold you-" before being cut off by Gavin entering the room. He is disappointed in the first series when Gavin and Stacey get married and he is not chosen to take Stacey down the aisle. He and Bryn eventually become friends again, something they are both glad about.I only started watching it from the third series, I didn’t really know it was a thing before that! But as soon as I knew what it was, I watched every single episode on Christmas Day. I left my family and I was hooked. I just love that it can make you laugh again and again.” After the popularity of it all, are you going to make Gavin & Stacey parties a regular thing? In Series 1, Smithy thinks that Gavin should not get his hopes up when they are going to meet Stacey, and believes that she might not turn up. And despite the fact that he did not want to go with Gavin, he rather enjoys himself when he is there. He and Nessa have the first of four One Night Stands, which occurred in the en-suite of the hotel room, and involved a toilet brush. Ar Sheridan starred as Smithy’s sister before she became the ITV drama go to girly, and when she was still dating James Corden (cursed). I always enjoy her carnage, even if she’s a pretty minor character. Deano And on the Welsh side of the fence, Rob Brydon’s Bryn more than holds his own in the comedic throng. Whether he’s skirting around the fishing-trip-that-shall-not-be-discussed, developing his interesting relationship with technology (“that’s the beauty; after I’ve put all of mine on, I’ve still got room for 49,853 songs”), singing with Nessa, stressing out over the surprise party, working out with Smithy or interacting over-enthusiastically with all the lads, Bryn garners big laughs on regular occasions.

Stacey's mum Gwen is a cheerful character who loves her daughter and is known for making omelets! Sheridan Smith Love him so much, and not to sound like those weird girlies on the internet who never really grew out of their Horrible Histories Mathew Baynton obsession – but he’s so cute. Aw. Not that funny but great in other ways tier Gwen Less hard-working writers might think that two big comedic characters are enough, but Corden and Jones don’t stop there. Pam, Gavin’s mum, could easily have been a boring side-note. But instead Alison Steadman’s character is a bombastic force of nature, who’d pretend she was a vegetarian if it meant keeping the in-laws happy, mount a protest/BBQ against a pylon being erected, and happily start a race war with the Welsh contingent after a few drinks. She’s paranoid, overly-excitable and utterly hilarious. Ah, Stacey is finally pregnant, having taken 34 pregnancy tests "just to make sure". This is not necessarily unlikely as I neither know nor care about the motility of Gavin's sperm, but it would have been nice for that particularly storyline not to have ended quite so tidily. Happy ever after can have the odd bump in the road, no? Smithy/Nessa update Stacey: “I had a brunch I did. Oh, I got up so late cos I set the alarm for ten but I didn’t get up till gone eleven and I thought well I’m too early for lunch and I’m too late for breakfast, so I just had a banana. But if anything that made me more hungry. So I ended up having a sandwich, some cereal and a yoghurt, which is brunch innit? So I rang my mum and I said I’ve just had my first ever brunch.”

When did you first become obsessed with Gavin & Stacey?

Finally, Sheridan Smith is a series regular as Smithy's younger sister Ruth "Rudi" Smith. She's immature but kind and also likes to be called Smithy. How many seasons of Gavin and Stacey are available?

As the show progressed, it spent more and more time in this central section where laughs meet big topics. In series one, Gavin and Stacey’s relationship showed us the ideal romantic timeline of dating, engagement and marriage. Meanwhile, Nessa and Smithy showed us the less glossy alternative: one night stand with someone you don’t even claim to like, awkwardly trying to avoid each other, unplanned pregnancy. Favourite quote: "Korma is futile!" https://t.co/vGm8NxIpGU— Eman El-Sherbiny (@Emythat) May 28, 2019 David "Dave Coaches" Lloyd Gooch ( Steffan Rhodri) – Coach driver in Barry and Nessa's fiancé, after they got engaged in the Christmas special. Aspersions are cast regarding his sexual health in Series 1, although it is revealed in Series 2 that he has been to "the clinic". He is the only person, other than Bryn and Jason, who knows what happened on the fishing trip, after Bryn told him to get the matter off his chest. His relationship with Nessa results in both Bryn and Jason being incredibly nervous about him telling their friends what happened, although he makes it very clear to Bryn he wouldn't tell anyone about it. He also has his own company named Dave's Coaches. He often shows jealousy towards Smithy for being the father of Nessa's child. Smithy gets jealous of him for always spending time with his son and treating him like his own. In the final episode he leaves Nessa at the altar as he doesn't believe she loves him. Nessa's father mentions him having "blood on his hands", but says he was joking, knowing that "nothing was proven". Dave often has a strained relationship with the other characters, and has publicly had angry exchanges with Bryn, Smithy and Pete, who punched Dave in the face after he made an uncharitable remark about his wife, Dawn.It was simple. Everyone’s personality fitted it personally, and that’s why I ended up as Nessa. We also had a Facebook event in the run-up to it, where we posted who we’d go as to avoid doubles.

The all-star cast continues, with Would I Lie to You? presenter Rob Brydon playing Stacey's uncle Bryn. Doris on dating] “The thing to remember is, don’t go giving him nothing on the first night. Well, no, not nothing. A kiss, a cuddle, a cheeky finger. Just don’t go selling the whole farm.”Jean – A character who Bryn invites to Gwen's birthday party, due to guests he'd already invited saying they can't attend. Jean is hated by Gwen however for reasons that weren't really mentioned. Doris warns Bryn not to invite her and does not like her. Jean is not seen on screen, however Gwen sees her and it is unknown what happened next. Smithy: “I’ve been thinking about ending it all to be honest, suicide…big time. How many Nurofen would I need to finish me off?”
